(LINKS)
Here is a link to an excellent article on how to do medical research online,
which was written by Janabeth Evans, R.N., R.N.C., a nurse consultant who specializes in
finding medical information for lawyers: http://www.attorneys-med-serv.com/medinf.html
Here are some helpful research sites:
AMA Links Page to Online Medical
Journals
This is a great list of online medical journals maintained by the American Medical
Association.
Centers For Disease Control
This is a large site from this federal agency which contains info about diseases,
injuries, disabilities, prevention guidelines, and specific population information.
The Florida Medical Network
Sponsored by the Florida Medical Association, and still under heavy construction,
this site promises to be very helpful to medical consumers in Florida. It contains lists
and links specific to the state of Florida, for hospitals, medical organizations,
physicians, and health insurance companies. It is also constructing links to medicine and
drug databases.
Food and Drug Administration
A site for information on drugs and medical devices.
Harvard Medical
School Library
A very good medical library web site.
HealthFinder
This is a gateway consumer health information web site from the United States
government, Dept. of Health and Human Services. It can lead you to selected online publications, clearinghouses, databases,
web sites, and support and self-help groups, as well as the government agencies and
not-for-profit organizations that produce reliable information for the public.
Merk Manual
The Merk Manual is a very well known and popular general purpose medical reference
book, now on line and searchable. It's useful for consumers, lawyers, and health care
professionals.
National Cancer Institute
A great place to start for information about cancer.
National Library of Medicine
Offering free unlimited Medline searches, this site is
sponsored by the federal government and the prestigious National Institutes of Health.
